2012 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
The Next Wave Festival of New Musicals will celebrate its fifth anniversary edition in August 2012. Our goal remains the same: to make Montreal a nurturing place for innovative musical theatre, featuring performers and creators from our region as well as special guest collaborators from around the world.
Each year, the Centre for Education and Theatre in Montreal (CETM) selects different works to be part of The Next Wave. These may be full productions, workshops, staged readings or, for the first time, samples of works in progress. CETM is now accepting proposals for its 2012 edition in three different categories.
• CATEGORY 1 — Regular Applications
As in previous years, CETM reviews complete scripts and scores of musicals that could be mounted as part of the festival. Shows should be for a maximum of 15 actors.
• CATEGORY 2 — Shows that are already mounted - NEW!
For musicals that have been previously presented elsewhere and which could benefit from additional exposure, CETM may provide an appropriate venue, group marketing, plus technical and administrative support to such productions during the festival. In the tradition of the Fringe festival, all other costs related to Category 2 shows must be handled by the organization or individual(s) who are submitting their application to The Next Wave.
• CATEGORY 3 – Excerpts from works in progress – NEW!
The Next Wave now welcomes proposals to present excerpts from projects in development as part of the festival’s August activities. Up to three days will be set aside to focus especially on local writers and composers and those creators who would like to use Montreal as a springboard for their projects’ further development. Scenes and/or songs may be proposed. Presentations can be of different lengths, from 15 to 90 minutes in total.
